This project involved an emergency septic lateral repair for a residential property in Sandpoint after the homeowner experienced significant plumbing issues. A licensed plumber identified a collapsed, aging cast iron lateral connecting to the city system as the source of the failure, requiring immediate replacement to restore service.

Due to the urgency of the situation, our team coordinated rapidly to mobilize equipment and resources within 12 hours of the initial call. Emergency utility locates were filed immediately, and the repair was completed within 48 hours of first contact. Matt and the TradeCraft team worked closely with the City of Sandpoint to expedite permitting and inspections, ensuring all work met municipal requirements while minimizing disruption to the homeowner.

Excavation was performed with extreme care in a utility-dense area, including hand digging to safely expose existing services. The failed section of lateral was removed, capped on both ends to prevent impact on neighboring homes still connected to the shared line, and a new lateral was trenched and rerouted. The new line was properly bedded in sand, with equal care given to protecting all encountered utilities during backfill.

To restore the roadway, asphalt preparation included installing 16 inches of compacted ¾-inch minus, highway-spec road base placed in lifts to prevent future settlement or potholing. The project was completed with final grading of the affected parking area and yard, leaving the property clean, functional, and fully restored. The result was a fast, compliant repair that resolved the issue while protecting surrounding infrastructure and public roadway integrity.
